Tween/teen Sewing Workshops

What you'll learn & make:
Beach Bag: Extend your sewing skills to create a large lined beach bag, choose from a rainbow of webbing to create feature straps & put patch pockets and magnetic fastener on your lining.
Shorts: A great introduction into dressmaking skills: laying out pattern pieces, seams & seam finishes, Making a casing for elastic & hems.
Introduction to stretch fabric/T-shirt upcycle: You all about ‘What is jersey fabric’, how to stitch jersey/stretch fabrics, machine settings, needles, what to avoid...put it into practice & upcycle a boring T-shirt into something amazing!
Who is this suitable for: Perfect for creative tweens and teens aged year 6 plus who want to develop their existing sewing skills in a fun, supportive, hands-on environment. These sessions encourage creativity away from screens while helping young people build confidence, patience, focus, and independent making skills.
With over 10 years of teaching experience, these tween/teen workshops are specifically designed to support developing young makers;
- Confidence using a sewing machine safely and independently
- Understanding of sewing machine parts and functions
- Measuring, counting, and pattern placement skills
- Precision cutting and accuracy following patterns and templates
- Knowledge of different stitches and sewing techniques
- Creative problem-solving and design thinking
- Understanding of fabrics, textiles, and materials
- Developing Fashion and sewing terminology
- Confidence expressing their own creative ideas through design
* Tweens/teens must have previously attended an introduction to sewing in order to attend any of the other sessions as the basics will not be covered in these sessions! If you attend without the relevant experience regrettably you will be asked to leave in the interest of safety.
