Who is this suitable for: Over 16's- This course is perfect if you have sewn before or if you have attended the some beginners workshops & would like to extend your sewing skills further into dressmaking

What you'll Learn & Make: in this session You will learn how to perfect shirring, you will have the opportunity to test the technique on different sample fabrics before measuring & calculating your own dress, top or skirt. You will put your shirring skills into practice making your own garment based on body measurements, decide/design straps  & have the opportunity to use an overlocker. There is no set outcome in the workshop to give you choice in which garment /style suits you. the session involves key tutor demonstrations to give the session structure & core skills are learnt. There will be flexibility to work at your own pace & gain support where needed,  this will be a great opportunity to pick up tips & techniques when the tutor is helping other sewers with projects that may contain different techniques than your own. A great skill for beginners or returning dressmakers.

The timings of this workshop should enable you to complete your garment within the session but each person will work at a different pace so please be aware you may have tasks to complete after the session finishes.

Great workshop!

Really enjoyed the Shirring workshop. Everything was clearly explained and demonstrated in a friendly relaxed environment. I had chance to practise on a range of different materials before starting my garment. I have now finished my dress and shirred the bodice and edge of the sleeves and I love it!

Do it !

This workshop was so informative, I learnt such a lot. Shirring was always something that I thought would be difficult and beyond my skills set. Lucy showed us how; from baby steps to making or adapting a garment. We were also able to experiment with different types of fabric. The workshops at Sewing Institute are great fun, a learning g experience in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
