Course content:
This course is specifically designed to take your dressmaking skills to a more confident & professional level. During the 5 weeks/2 days you can opt to either build a folder of samples with self written instructions- this can become your sewing reference guide (or sewing bible) for future sewing projects & can be built upon for months/years to come. Work on a 'toile' (practice garment) or make a finished garment.
Throughout the course we will cover; laying out pattern pieces, grainline, bias of fabric, pattern markings, transferring pattern markings & notches, seams finishes, hems, adding contour darts (optional),
Week One:
- Measuring & sizings
- Cross referencing finished garment measurements
- Selecting a size
- Adding/shortening pattern pieces
- Grading between sizes
- laying out pattern pieces, grainline, bias of fabric, pattern markings, transferring pattern markings & notches,
- Perfect Patch pockets
- Flat felled seams
Week Two:
- Attaching a yoke- the burrito method
Week Three:
- Button Stands
- Stand collar
Week Four:
- Setting in sleeves
- Sleeve tabs
(Learn about changing sleeve shapes, styles & length- time allowing)
Week Five:
- Optional adding contour darts for shape,
- Tips for perfecting a shaped hemline
- Button holes
Who is this suitable for: Over 16's- Confident beginner- This workshop requires you to have existing dressmaking knowledge.
The timings of this workshop should enable you to leave with a finished product but each person will work at a different pace so please be aware you may have tasks to complete at home to finish your garment.
